New Art in Ophthalmology, Royal Gwent Hospital

Welsh illustrator and printmaker Rhi Moxon created a series of screen-printed works inspired by local landmarks, the geography of the ABUHB area and elements of visual imagery used in Orthoptic diagnosis. The suite of hand-made screen prints are permanently on display in E Block and were well-received by staff in the department.

Rhi creates vibrant, textured illustrations which are inspired by a love of travel and a playful curiosity towards the world. In addition to her illustration and printmaking projects Rhi works for Designs in Mind; a creative studio and social enterprise based in Shropshire, England, she co-ordinates creative workshops for young people through Criw Celf Flintshire, and she occasionally lectures on the Design Communication course at The North Wales School of Art, Glyndwr University.

This work is one of three new commissions for departments in the ABUHB Royal Gwent Hospital made possible through NHS Charities Environmental Improvement funding and internal Arts in Health discretionary funding (Planning).

Each team wanted to enhance their environment for their patients and staff with artwork that was site specific, and the artists involved worked with each team to respond to their ideas whilst bringing their own creativity to the projects.
