Julian Hayman – Chair & Trustee

Julian is Chair of Garth (Gwent Arts in Health), and is passionate about the charity enriching healthcare environments across South East Wales through visual art and arts projects for patients and NHS staff. A retired NHS manager with 25 years’ service locally, he brings this insight and commitment to the role. Julian is also a musician and songwriter and has been active in the Newport music scene for many years, he enjoys the arts, cycling, and walking.

 
Wendy Keay-Bright, PhD – Trustee

Wendy is Professor Emerita (Technology and Inclusion) at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Wendy holds a PhD (Designing for Playfulness) and has extensive research experience working within multi-disciplinary, arts, design, health and wellbeing contexts. Her applied research focused on inviting participants to influence decision making throughout a project lifecycle and included children and adults with learning difficulties, carers, educators, health board managers and funders. 

Dr Abdul Seckam - Trustee

Born in Zimbabwe, Abdul moved to Cardiff in 2002 to study Biomedical Science. He went on to complete a master’s in biomedical science (medical microbiology) and a PhD in evidence based wound care in 2016. He is now Head of Research and Academia at Healthcare Business Solutions and co creator of Stroke Hub Wales. Alongside his scientific career, Abdul is an accomplished artist and musician. Through Gwent Arts in Health, he has produced calming seascape paintings, designed the popular “Jazzy” Christmas card, and delivered online and live concerts supporting wellbeing for GARTH. His internationally exhibited artwork and charitable performances continue to connect creativity, health, and community across Wales through inclusive cultural initiatives.
